Robotic observatories are ideal infrastructures that can be remotely accessed by scientists, amateurs, and general public for research and education in Astronomy. Its robotization is a complex process for ensuring autonomy, safety, and coordination among all subsystems. Some observatories, such as Francisco Sanchez's, are equipped with two types of telescopes one for the night and one for the day. The night-time telescope must be protected from exposure to sunlight in order to use them in an automated way. For this purpose, this article proposes the design and construction of a smart cover that opens and closes according to the time of day. The mechatronic design covers the electronic, mechanical, and software programming, and it has been devised taking while taking the principles of open design, ease of reproduction, low-cost, and smart behaviour into account. The design has been parameterized, so that it can be adapted to telescopes of any size. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/mhy1485.html The final prototype is lightweight, cost-effective, and can be built while using common 3D printing and PCB milling machines. The complete design is licensed under the GNU General Public License v3.0 and all the documentation, schematics, and software are available in public repositories, like Zenodo, GitHub, and Instructables. The electromagnetic performance of aerial platforms, which are composed mostly of nonmetallic materials, is a subject of great interest at present time. The behavior of this type of composite structure against electromagnetic environmental effects (E3), such as lightning, is not well-studied as in the case of metalic structures. The purpose of this article is to characterize the joints present in aerial platforms constructed mainly of nonmetallic composite materials. The study of these joints is fundamental because electrical discontinuities or preferential routes can produce changes in the electromagnetic behavior of an aircraft. The proposed measurement system for the characterization of these joints is a microstrip line. The flexibility of the test setup allows for evaluation of different joints in carbon fiber composite (CFC) samples with a different number of plies. Additionally, approximated models of the behavior of the joints as well as the detection of possible defects in the joining process are reported.Planar surfaces are prevalent components of man-made indoor scenes, and plane extraction plays a vital role in practical applications of computer vision and robotics, such as scene understanding, and mobile manipulation. Nowadays, most plane extraction methods are based on reconstruction of the scene. In this paper, plane representation is formulated in inverse-depth images. Based on this representation, we explored the potential to extract planes in images directly. A fast plane extraction approach, which employs the region growing algorithm in inverse-depth images, is presented. This approach consists of two main components seeding, and region growing. In the seeding component, seeds are carefully selected locally in grid cells to improve exploration efficiency. After seeding, each seed begins to grow into a continuous plane in succession. Both greedy policy and a normal coherence check are employed to find boundaries accurately. During growth, neighbor coplanar planes are checked and merged to overcome the over-segmentation problem. Through experiments on public datasets and generated saw-tooth images, the proposed approach achieves 80.2% CDR (Correct Detection Rate) on the ABW SegComp Dataset, which has proven that it has comparable performance with the state-of-the-art. The proposed approach runs at 5 Hz on typical 680 × 480 images, which has shown its potential in real-time practical applications in computer vision and robotics with further improvement. The high incidence of skin cancers in the Caucasian population is primarily due to the accumulation of DNA damage in epidermal cells induced by chronic ultraviolet B (UVB) exposure. UVB-induced DNA photolesions, including cyclobutane-pyrimidine dimers (CPDs), promote mutations in skin cancer driver genes. In humans, CPDs are repaired by nucleotide excision repair (NER). Several commonly used and investigational medications negatively influence NER in experimental systems. Despite these molecules' ability to decrease NER activity in vitro, the role of these drugs in enhancing skin cancer risk is unclear. In this study, we investigated four molecules (veliparib, resveratrol, spironolactone, and arsenic trioxide) with well-known NER-inhibitory potential in vitro, using UVB-irradiated CHO epithelial and HaCaT immortalized keratinocyte cell lines. Relative CPD levels, hypoxanthine phosphoribosyltransferase gene mutation frequency, cell viability, cell cycle progression, and protein expression were assessed. All fometabolic cellular response pathways are essential to consider in evaluating the skin cancer risk-modifying effects of pharmacological compounds.Overweight and obesity are among the most widespread health problems worldwide. The primary cause of obesity is an inability to control overeating. Therefore, today, obesity needs to be treated more as an eating disorder, i.e., a mental disorder, and thus, it should be approached as such. Taking the above together, this study aimed to assess the impact of supportive psychotherapy on reducing body weight in young overweight and obese women who attempted slimming therapy and, additionally, the possibility of maintaining the weight-loss effect in the long term. Sixty young women aged 20-30 were randomized into three groups that differed in therapeutic management. With the help of an individually selected diet plan, the highest effectiveness in weight loss was demonstrated in people whose weight reduction was supported by goal-oriented psychotherapy. In this group, a sustained effect of slimming and even further weight loss were observed six months following the discontinuation of the therapy. In conclusion, traditional slimming therapies using an individual diet plan and a dietitian's care are effective; however, supportive psychotherapeutic work provides more beneficial results and maintains the change from a long-term perspective.
